For Craft Roulette Episode 293, the wheel served up a really fun set of parameters! The project was a Book Binding Card, but I decided to change up the traditional look by creating mine in portrait orientation instead of landscape. It’s such a simple switch, but it completely transforms the feel of the card!
The Parameters
🟨 Project: Book Binding Card
🟥 Colors: Sandwich Shop (Red Ketchup, Mustard Yellow, Pickle Green, Napkin Blue)
🟦 Element: Music
🟧 Random: Wrap(s)(ing)
My Card Details
Since the element was music, I added a narrow strip of sheet music right along the top binding. To include the random parameter, I also wrapped gold thread around the binding area before sealing it down—just a small detail that makes a big impact.
The sweet birds come from the Nests of Winter Designer Series Paper, and I fussy-cut them before popping them up on a Stylish Shapes circle. Before adding the birds, I lightly stamped an image from Gallery Blooms in Crushed Curry to give the circle some extra depth and interest.
That circle is layered onto a 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" piece of Country Woods DSP, embossed with the Birch Wood Embossing Folder for texture. Behind that sits a 4" x 4" Basic Black layer that frames everything perfectly.
For a touch of greenery, I added Summer Splash leaves cut with the leaf die from the Hug Abloom Paper Pumpkin Add-On.
How to Make This Easy Book Binding Fun Fold
This fun fold looks fancy but comes together quickly:
Start with a 4 1/4" x 11" piece of cardstock.
Score at 4 1/2" and 5 1/2".
Fold the card in half like normal at 5 1/2".
Then fold the front flap backward along the 4 1/2" score line.
Add any ribbon, twine, or thread wraps to the top section before gluing.
Glue down only the 1-inch top section to create the “book binding.”
Decorate the front panel as desired!
This layout is incredibly versatile—once you make one, you’ll want to make a dozen!
