Craft Roulette Episode 335 – Fall Leaf Peeping Gatefold Card

 

It’s time for another Craft Roulette challenge! For Episode 335, Mr. Wheel gave us four fun parameters to work with:

• Project: Gatefold
• Colors: Vacation
• Element: CAS from last week’s gallery
• Random: Paper Strip(s)

I decided to take the Vacation prompt in a very fall-ish direction with a New England leaf-peeping vacation! 🍂🍁 There’s nothing quite like a road trip through New England when the leaves are showing off their gorgeous fall colors.

My A2 Gatefold Card

For the project, I made an A2 Gatefold card. The card base is an 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of cardstock, scored at 2 1/8" from each side and then folded toward the middle to create the gatefold.

For my fall colors, I used the beautiful colors found in my Sunflower Fields Designer Series Paper. I love how perfectly these warm colors capture the feeling of a New England autumn vacation.

The CAS element was inspired by last week's Craft Roulette gallery. CAS means copy and selectively edit, and I chose to CASE Sharon Kastor's beautiful fall-colored card. I kept the basic design elements that caught my eye—an embossed background and a scalloped focal mat—while making the card my own.

I embossed my Sunflower Fields Designer Series Paper using the Softly Woven Embossing Folder, which adds some wonderful texture without taking away from the pretty fall pattern.

For the sentiment, I used the Round About Messages stamp set and mounted it on the second-largest die from the Scalloped Christmas Cheer die set. The scalloped edge adds just the right amount of detail to the focal point.

And finally, Mr. Wheel wanted Paper Strip(s), so I added two 1/4" strips along the bottom of the sentiment layer. Sometimes those little finishing details are just what a card needs!
