Craft Roulette Episode 267 | 4Bar Fun with Feathered Flair

I'm so excited to share my submission for Craft Roulette, Episode 267, hosted by the always-inspiring Mary Gunn with this week’s guest, Brennan Keane! This episode’s creative challenge brought together four fabulous parameters:

  • Project: 4Bar Card (3 1/2" x 5")

  • Colors: Craft Store

  • Element: Sew(s)(ing)/Sewn

  • Random: Stencil

These prompts got my wheels turning, and I’m thrilled with how my card turned out!

๐ŸŽจ My Creative Process

I started with a Crumb Cake card base — one of my go-to neutrals that fits perfectly within a natural, craft-store-inspired color palette. The 4Bar size (3.5" x 5") made for a sweet little canvas to build on.

For the Stencil element, I pulled out a Taylored Expressions stencil and softly blended Lost Lagoon ink across the background. This gave the card a subtle, textured look that set the tone without overpowering the design.

To meet the Sewing/Sewn requirement, I used a small square of Timeless Plaid designer series paper. The stitched pattern on the paper added that "sewn" element — without pulling out the sewing machine!

The star of the show is the adorable parrot from the new Feathered Fun stamp set. I colored this cheerful guy using Stampin’ Blends, giving him personality and a pop of color that complements the natural tones beautifully.

I also tucked in a vellum flower and a sentiment strip from my stash — perfect little details that made the card feel complete. To carry the design through, I stenciled a coordinating pattern on the inside of the card and the envelope, which really brought it all together with a touch of flair!

๐Ÿงต Why I Love Craft Roulette

This weekly challenge always pushes me creatively and helps me dig into my stash in new ways. I love seeing how other crafters interpret the same parameters — the inspiration is endless!

BUTTERFLIES & FLOWERS LAYERING DECORATIVE MASKS

Hello, and welcome! I used the new, upcoming Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks for today's cards. It is a set of 6 different masks for $10, and will be available for purchase January 4, 2022. I used two more of the set to create the background mats pictured, and will make them into cards later.

It's really much easier than I thought to use them. Just place the mask over Cardstock, fabric, or other material and add a little color! To hold the mask in place, use temporary adhesive or temporary tape, such as painter's tape. Use just a tiny bit of ink or paint-if you use too much, it will seep under the mask. To clean, wipe off with a baby wipe or rinse off. I used Sponge Daubers on the top card, and Blending Brushes on the second, and extra mats. You could also:
• Spritz using ink, chalk, or glimmer sprays
• Sponge using ink or paint
• Trace using markers
• Emboss using VersaMark Ink and embossing powders
• Add texture using embossing paste.

The sentiments on my cards came from the Special Moments Stamp Set. It will be FREE with $100 purchase (before tax & shipping), during Sale A Bration. This special campaign begins January 4, 2022, and runs through February 28, 2022. Choose a FREE Sale A Bration product with ever $50 or $100 you spend (before tax & shipping).
